A solo venture--hopefully my last
Watching helmeted and wetsuited "experts" capsize their specialized whitewater canoes in rapids that I'd just paddled up (in a beat up oldtown) was quite satisfying. The solitude and physical exertion helped me forget final exams.
But I wished for a bow paddler, someone to carry the backpack while I portaged the canoe, someone to appreciate my effort and laugh at my mistakes, someone to share the adventure.
Happily, I have just 21 days to wait...

paddled UP??
yes, that would sound like quite the exercise...
it was. the Cacapon runs swift and was in flood. I made it up about 8 miles (including three class III rapids--parts of which I portaged and lined). I turned around about mid day, and had to face a savage headwind both ways--rough work in when solo in a big canoe.
Sweet! That sounds like a blast Paul. Have a great week :)
As Dad triumphantly says "It is not good for man to be alone"
Hey Paul, I'm totally looking forward to being your future bow paddler. I'm not sure how much help I'll be if we're going UP-stream... but I'll do my best!
excellent.
What fun Paul! Only a few more weeks...
indeed. I am planning a canoe trip down the Union River for the first Sabbath I'll be back--pending Petra's approval:-)
class III rapids - going up stream... sounds like a lot of fun :-)
Yay! It's the big weekend! I just wanted to say that I'm REALLY disappointed that I won't be able to be there for the wedding. But Joel will be there so he's going to tell me all about it! I know God is going to bless your and Petra's marriage immensely!
It was a great wedding Paul!
